BOOKS - June / July / August

Book time.

Note - I discovered so many picture books during the last three months that I'm going to do a separate post devoted to them.

Note (Part II) - I wrote the same thing last time I did a book post. Oops.

Starting off with the books I hope to page through one day....

Bauhaus by Jeannine Fiedler and Peter Feierabend.
Ghosts And Ruins by Ben Catmull.
Sunday Night Movies by Leanne Shapton.
The High Fidelity Art Of Jim Flora by Irwin Chusid, Barbara Economon and Jim Flora.
Inside the World of Board Graphics: Skate, Surf, Snow by Robynne Raye and Michael Strassburger.
The Humans / One Hundred Apocalypses and Other Apocalypses / Nine Inches: Stories
Hangsaman by Shirley Jackson / The Road Through the Wall by Shirley Jackson
And some of the books I enjoyed reading during the last few months...

The Collected Stories of Richard Yates (At this point I've read almost everything Richard Yates has ever written and this saddens me [both because I won't have any more books of his to read... and because so many of his stories/books are highly depressing]) / The House in Paris by Elizabeth Bowen / True Grit by Charles Portis (I loved this so much - I wish that I had read it when I was Mattie's age) / Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear (as if I needed to start another mystery series.... oh well)

August 2012 - Things I Read, Things I Watched & Things I Decided I Want to Read

Previous editions of this sort of post - July / June / April & May / March / February / January

I thought I'd start with the books that I discovered this month, because I found SO MANY GOOD ONES. SO MUCH I WANT TO READ! READING! JOY! Okay. Calming down.
Liar & Spy by Rebecca Stead.
I Can Do It Myself! and Now I Am Big! by Stephen Krensky, illustrated by Sara Gillingham.
John Saturnall's Feast by Lawrence Norfolk.
A Christmas Carol and Dracula (both BabyLit) by Jennifer Adams & Alison Oliver.
Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple.
Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures by Emma Straub.

(Some of) the books I read this month...

Six Feet Under: Better Living Through Death - this book was so awesome & if you're a fan of the show you should BUY IT IMMEDIATELY.

Heads on and We Shoot: The Making of Where the Wild Things Are - This is going to sound weird, but I thought this book was incredibly moving and it actually made me cry (several times).

Also - Rebel Style / Passionella and Other Stories / One More Time: A Memoir by Carol Burnett
Now for the movies I watched this month. I finally saw The Dark Knight Rises.

Speaking of crying while enjoying things that probably don't usually inspire tears - I wept almost every time that Michael Caine appeared on screen.
Rewatched Rushmore.
Rewatched Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical.

(The images I chose for the last three movies were dancing-shots.... sadly the rest of the movies didn't feature dancing so I couldn't continue that. Woe.)
I can't believe it took me this long to watch this. Available on watch instantly.
I watched Bernie with my mother (probably the only person I know who enjoys going to the movies as frequently as I do - yet another reason I love her). I thought Jack Black was pretty great, but she was oddly ALL ABOUT the movie (especially the real people they showed in the documentary-style-interview-footage). So,  FYI, two thumbs up from my mom.
& Premium Rush. Because, you know, after 10 Things I Hate About You I'll basically see anything featuring the guy who played Cameron. Also known as - Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
