Man's Favorite Sport?

Man's Favorite Sport? (1964) may win the award for most random premise - Rock Hudson works as a fishing expert for Abercrombie & Fitch. He gets into trouble when - BY GOLLY! - he's forced to enter a fishing tournament and Paula Prentiss's character finds out that he's never actually been fishing before!

Whattttttttttt? So ridiculous. Who heard that pitch and thought, "Now there's a movie!"

Also, while characters who fall in love too quickly (and/or easily) turn up in a huge percentage of romantic comedies, this is a really glaring example of it.

Pillow Talk

Pillow Talk (1959) was one of the first old romantic comedies I ever watched... back when I was watching them just for my own personal enjoyment (and not also for blog posting reasons).

Now that I've watched TONS of ridiculous old movies, I'm not quite as fond of Pillow Talk's absurdity as I originally was, but it's still pretty classic.

And - like Sex and the Single Girl - it's one of the major plot sources for the movie Down with Love.

Starring Doris Day, Rock Hudson and Tony Randall.

Doris is so horrified by this. As though nothing illicit could happen on a couch without a fold-out bed.
This must have been such a fun set to design and decorate.
